The bursting banks of the Great Ruaha River are a playground for large herds of buffaloes, Grant’s gazelles, ostriches, and roan and sable antelopes, and it is not uncommon to witness lions hunting their prey or groups of giraffes and elephants passing by in troves.


Ruaha National park

You will be picked from the Airport or your Iringa hotel, drive to Ruaha National Park. You will find the park with its highlands forest, miombo woodlands, lowland Savannah with Acacia, and mixed woodland. But also you will find vast wetland and plains which are home to an enormous array of water birds. The park offers an excellent game viewing experience with buffalo, zebra, giraffe, bushbuck, waterbuck, both greater and lesser kudu and lots of elephants roam near the Ruaha great river. Various predators such as lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog, hyena and so much more.  Overnight at Mabata Makali lodge (lunch, dinner, and breakfast).

Game drive Ruaha National park

After breakfast departs for a full day game drive with a bush lunch looking for a wild game. The whole day will be spent looking for animals along the Great Ruaha River and through the National Park. During the game drive, you will spot animals like the buffalo, zebra, Defassa waterbuck, impala, giraffe, Lichtenstein’s hartebeest, antelope, Grant’s gazelle, elephant, lion, cheetah, leopard, wild dog, spotted hyena, waterbuck, jackal, and some birds like the saddle-billed storks, white-headed plovers, Goliath herons, and the white-backed night heron. You will have dinner and overnight at Mabata Makali lodge

Game drive and walking safari

Early morning walking safari, back for breakfast, after breakfast continues with the game drive till evening. Today, Ruaha National Park is considered one of Tanzania’s few untouched frontiers for its spectacular concentration of wildlife. It is most famous for being home to Tanzania’s largest elephant population—currently estimated to be 12,000 strong—and is also a great place for birding and bird photography. Have breakfast around 7 am, morning game drives en route to Iringa. Drop off at the Airport or your Iringa hotel.
