Gibbs Farm

Gibb’s Farm is one of the oldest guesthouse properties, having been established by German settlers as part of a coffee estate in 1929.

Per person

The gracious and sprawling colonial homestead is set amongst formal English-style gardens. While coffee is still grown, processed, and roasted on the farm, a vast fruit and vegetable garden provides almost all of the fresh produce used in the wholesome, delicious meals enjoyed by guests.

Cozy and inviting cottages with private verandas and stone fireplaces are scattered on the spacious grounds, while the guest areas, which include a charming living room, two dining rooms, and a gift boutique, are situated in the lovingly refurbished old farmhouse. Cozy nooks and crannies invite guests to linger, while the spacious patio boasts sweeping views of the tranquil gardens.

What we love about Gibbs Farm

  • Spoil yourself with one of the Maasai-inspired treatments in the spa, all of which use indigenous plants and shrubs – the Arabica coffee scrub is ideal for gentlemen guests!
  • Stroll through the Ngorongoro Forest with an indigenous Maasai healer, who will point out the more than 20 medicinal plants used at the Osero Clinic, the farm’s healthcare center.
  • Indulge in afternoon tea in the garden, on your private veranda, or in the main lodge – we recommend breaking with tradition just enough to enjoy a cup of the farm’s freshly ground Arabica coffee rather than tea!

Activities at Gibbs Farm.

  • The farm offers an exciting variety of things to do.
  • You could certainly begin by exploring the extensive grounds, taking in the herb garden, rose garden, vegetable garden, and all the resident birdlife, in the company of experienced horticulturalists! Several other walks are available.
  • You can take a look around the farm, including the coffee fields and cattle herd.
  • If you’re interested in traditional medicine, you’ll relish strolling through the Ngorongoro forest with Maasai healers and being introduced to a range of health-giving plants.

  • You can get really involved in farm life too, joining in with bread making, vegetable harvesting, and coffee roasting!
  • Community and cultural experiences on offer include meeting Gibb’s artist in residence, taking a trip to the local village Tloma, and traveling to Karatu for a town tour.
  • And of course, a number of safari activities are available, such as walking along the Ngorongoro Crater rim, discovering the elephant caves deep in the Ngorongoro forest, and enjoying game drives within the crater and in Lake Manyara National Park.
  • The crater is home to all Big Five – lion, rhino, leopard, elephant, and buffalo – in addition to numerous smaller predators and herbivores, and ample birdlife.
  • Highlights of Lake Manyara include the tree-climbing lions and vast flocks of flamingos!
